Windlight Guide

Hi,

I just created this page to guide anyone that needs help on how to take really nice photos in SL.

Firstly, you’ll definitely want to use the windlight settings when you take photos. With windlight, your avi will look a lot sharper without the need of wearing facelights/bodylights.

I highly recommend the windlight presets from Ana Lutetia. You can click this LINK to download the presets. If you’re using Phoenix or Ascent viewer, they already come with windlight presets, therefore downloading this file is not required.

Next… after download, you unzip the files to the following locations in ur computer, according to the windows version you’re using…

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\windlight

Windows Vista and 7

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings\windlight

Overwrite any file/folder if u get the prompt.

Next, restart your SL if you haven’t, and you can access your windlight preset using:

  1. Go to World menu > Sun > Environment Editor.
  2. Click the Advanced Sky button.
  3. Next to Sky Presets, click the dropdown and select a preset. The sky changes instantly.

The preset I normally use is “AnaLu *studio* 5 and I’ll recommend the same too! Try it! Have fun photographing!

(More windlight settings from other users can be found HERE)

Other things that can also further improve your photography experience is to enable things like anti-aliasing and anthropic-aliasing. As well as enabling your shadows…but i’m not writing it here so google for it urself! 😀
